Alice secured another podium this weekend at Snetterton, but clutch problems in race two, meant she couldn’t continue her string of podiums.
Powell qualified in 5th for both races, which was not what she was hoping for, “Pace was there but, in qualifying one, I just did not string a lap together. In the second qualifying, it was wet, but drying and we were swapping P1 and P2 throughout, but the track dried and we just didn’t get onto slicks in time”.
By the second corner of race one, Alice had already gained a place and moved to fourth and pushed hard to catch the front few. Luckily for Alice, two drivers ahead of her, collected each other and crashed out allowing Alice to move into second. However, due to the incident, this created about a 3 second gap from Alice to the leader, but she pushed hard and closed the gap to only 0.5 seconds by the finish.
Race Two, was not the race Powell hoped for. Problems with the clutch off the line, meant she dropped a place and had to fight back up through the field and managed to get back up to fourth, “Race one was fantastic and it was my aim at the start to get ahead of my championship rival, which I did. However, in race two, I could not get good drive off the line, due to the clutch problems. This dropped me down a place and I had to fight back up, but by this time the leaders were too far ahead. Despite this, we will continue to fight hard to close the gap in the Championship,”
Alice is still in second place of the championship, and the next round is at Rockingham on the 11/12th of September.
In the mean time, she will be racing in the Ginetta G50 this coming weekend at Snetterton, with new team Chris Dittman Racing. This can be seen Live on ITV4 on Sunday.
