All to Play For

This weekend was the penultimate round of the Formula Renault BARC Championship at Rockingham, and Alice entered the weekend second in the points.

The backed driver, managed to qualify 5th and 4th for the races at the Corby circuit.

In race one, Alice got a good start and was right on the tail of the 4th place driver heading down to the first corner. Battling across the lap, Alice eventually got past by pulling off a late braking move, to put herself in 4th place. With the leaders over three seconds ahead, Alice got her head down in pursuit of 3rd. However, the safety car came out with 5 laps to go, and stayed out for the duration of the race. On the other hand, before it came out, she closed the gap down to just over two seconds.

The afternoon race, which was race two, proved difficult. Powell did not make the best of starts and locked up her brakes at turn two, sending her off onto the grass and down the order to 16th place. But a fighting drive from the Chipping Norton driver, she managed to race her way up the field to 7th place, on a track which is hard for single seater cars to overtake on.

Commenting on the weekend Alice said, “I did not qualify as high as I would have liked, but showed the pace in race one to finish 4th. However, my mistake at the start in race two, really did cost me, but I will definitely learn from that! Saying that, the championship is still not over and first place is still within reach. With only one round left, I just need to stay focused and really get my head down, and I am really looking forward to the challenge!”
Alice is still second in the championship, 14 points behind the leader. The final round of the Championship is at the fast and thrilling circuit, Thruxton, in Andover, on the 17th of October.
